Repair or replace — the honest version
The rule we use with customers: if the repair costs more than about 40% of an equivalent new unit and the appliance is more than seven or eight years old, replace it — especially a refrigerator, where a new inverter model will cut the Davao Light bill every month afterwards. Why appliances fail early in Davao — and how to slow it down
Voltage swings and brownouts. Compressors and control boards hate power that flickers. An AVR for the ref and washer is the cheapest insurance we know; we can install one during the visit.
Hard water and no cleaning. Inlet filters and drain pumps clog with grit; drum and gasket mold builds in humidity. A quarterly clean-out cycle and a monthly filter rinse add years.
Heat and airflow. A ref jammed against a wall in a hot kitchen runs its compressor to death. Ten centimetres of clearance and a clean condenser coil are worth more than any repair.
Overloading the washer. The comforter that “just fits” is how belts and bearings die. Half-load for heavy items, full load for normal wash.

Often not. A failed start relay, overload protector or thermostat produces the same symptom for a tenth of the cost, and a no-frost model with an iced-up evaporator points to the defrost system. We test those first; a compressor diagnosis by ear is not a diagnosis.
Do you repair inverter models?
Yes. Inverter washers and refs need brand-specific boards and are a little more expensive to fix, and we say so on the quote. The cheap mechanical parts are the same as on any other machine.
