What a proper installation includes — and what a cheap one skips

The ₱1,500 “installer from the store” and a ₱3,500 installation are not the same product. The difference is what happens inside the pipe:

• Vacuuming the lines. Air and moisture in the refrigerant circuit shorten compressor life and reduce cooling. A vacuum pump run to the right depth for 15–30 minutes is non-negotiable; purging with refrigerant instead is a shortcut that costs you later.

• Proper flares and torque. Most refrigerant leaks in the first year come from bad flare joints. Flares should be made with a proper tool and tightened to specification, then leak-tested.

• Correct pipe size and insulation. Undersized or uninsulated piping sweats, drips and reduces capacity. Insulation should be continuous and UV-protected outdoors.

• Drain with fall. The condensate drain must run downhill all the way, or the unit will drip inside within months — the single most common post-install complaint in Davao condos.

• Electrical done right. A dedicated line with the right breaker and wire gauge. Sharing a bedroom outlet with a 1.5 HP unit is how sockets melt.

• Test run with readings. Pressures, temperature drop at the vent, and drain flow checked and noted before the technician leaves.

Condo installations: rules that change the price

Davao condo buildings — from Ecoland and Matina towers to the Bajada and Lanang developments — typically require a work permit from the admin, installation only within their approved hours, outdoor units placed on the designated ledge or bracket points, and sometimes a specific drain routing. Some buildings forbid drilling the façade entirely. All of this is manageable, but it adds coordination and occasionally a condensate pump when the only drain runs uphill. Tell us the building name when you book and we handle the permit paperwork with the admin.

For houses the variables are distance and access: an outdoor unit at ground level beside the room is the cheapest possible install; one on a second-floor wall over a neighbour’s roof needs a bracket, a longer pipe run and sometimes a ladder team. Choosing the unit: three things that matter more than brand
